The Renier Family
Our daughter Lakyn was born 11 ½ weeks premature. She was born with a congenital heart defect due to DiGeorge Syndrome or 22q. Lakyn needed to undergo open heart surgery within the first week of life but because she was born premature and too small they were not able to operate until she grew bigger. Lakyn was fighter, but really began to struggle. After an x-ray we discovered the DiGeorge had also affected her lungs. Lakyn would have had to have a heart and lung transplant. This was an impossible task for her. We had Lakyn for 45 blessed days in the 4D NICU at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children before she gained her angel wings.
Then, seven months after losing Lakyn we were thrilled to find out we were expecting again. This time a baby boy. On September 13, 2017 at 16 weeks pregnant my water ruptured and we had to induce labor. Emmett was born asleep weighing only 3 ounces.
Not only has March of Dimes given us the opportunity to remember and honor our sweet babies by raising awareness and funds for vital research for healthy moms and babies, but it has also given us hope. Hope that one day we will have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby.
